This blog was inspired by a signature on a bottom of an email that read, “Consider the environment before printing this email” ROCK ON!!!

This is an unofficial anthem that was adopted by many Americans that was written by Woody Guthrie.  Mr. Guthrie asks a very valid question, is our land now made only for those who can pay the highest price?

Let’s take lumber for example. Once, many moons ago – the days when our great great grandparents walked the earth their was a revolution. Timber was not used just to keep people warm, the pulp was used to make boxes, paper, building supplies, etc. It took two strong men to operate one saw to cut down a tree. Then as the industry grew and technology developed, machines were made to quicken the process.

Now redwoods aging over 800 years old are being cut down throughout the world.

FACT: The amount of wood and paper we throw away each year is enough to heat 50 million homes for twenty years.

FACT: If we stopped purchasing Sunday papers, we would save 500 million trees each week.

Okay, I’m the type of person that doesn’t like to do some according to “normal standards”. . . I always want to ‘GO BIG OR GO HOME!”

I was shocked that Woody Harrelson says his acting career supports his activism. In 1996 Woody decided to put a spoof in the form of a banner on the Golden Gate Bridge. Him and his accomplices scaled the bridge to hang a massive sign that said, “Aren’t Ancient Redwoods More Precious Than Gold?” – This 75 foot banner was inspired by Charles Hurwitz’s first meeting with the Pacific Lumber employees after taking over the company and said his infamous statement, “I believe in the golden rule. . . he who has all the gold rules!”

Everyone that scaled the bridge, including Woody, was arrested, cited, and fined. But it made a statement.

Okay – so I am not asking everyone to scale the Golden Gate. . . but you can at least change the footer on your email, go online to read the news, . . . it’s literally that easy!
